The Savoy
has always had its own special quality of English individuality and style. With
the adjoining Savoy Theatre, the hotel was founded in 1889 by Richard D'Oyly
Carte, impresario of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas.
The Savoy's front entrance has become one of London's landmarks - a doorstep to
the theatres, opera, ballet and the shopping of the West End and Covent Garden,
with the City of London a short walk away. The famous riverside frontage
overlooks a classic sweep of the Thames, painted by Monet from his hotel window.
In recent years, the hotel has been extensively restored with new rooms and facilities added and advanced systems and technology installed, the latest in a line of improvements and additions made throughout its distinguished history.
