had it entirely rebuilt. Josef Kornhaeusel, the renowed architect, was
commissioned with the work, 91 apartments, 47 servants quarters, stable for 44
mounts and coach-houses for 30 carriages were built. During the Biedermeier
era Baden became a meeting point for the aristocracy, scholars, writers and
musicians (Beethoven, Weber ans Salieri were frequent visitors). In 1863 the
Sauerhof was purchased by Achduke Albrecht, a patron of the municipality of
Baden, who placed it at the disposal of the Officers Corps. During the First
and Second World War the Sauerhof was converted into a military
hospital. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
